Tobacco in Ukraine: Crimea’s Lost Legacy and a Country at War
Ukraine’s best tobacco story is buried in Crimea — the Ottoman-heritage Dyubek Oriental that fed the Tsar’s court and all of Soviet cigarette production. Since Russia’s 2014 annexation, that’s gone. What remains is 700 hectares of Virginia and Burley, and a Philip Morris factory in Kharkiv that Russian missiles keep hitting.
